Thanks Don for the insite. It is good to see other reviews that are not tainted by retailers trying to sell a product.

Everyone be careful of reviews you read on here since there is disgruntal companies who are not allowed to sell the z800. People should posts serial numbers to back up the fact if they have a unit at all. All sorts of negative posts in different treads. They then go on a "mission" to degrade the z800 out of spite. "Dave" "Sam" "Don" etc. etc... (I know who you are) Please stop your weak game. You tried to do this with Stephen Glaser and Icuiti product a while back now your starting with the z800. Please stop.

Stewart, it might good if you just let people have their say. You can only hurt yourself and your business by being too omnipresent here.

The regulars are pretty good at smoking out the bash artists. So, let nature take its course. Let' be realistic...the Z800 may be the latest advance in personal VR visors, but there are plenty of legitimate questions hovering aorund it. All in all, the early adopters who post here have done a sensational job of solving installation issues and the like, and helping the less tech savvy get set up.

i was just checking out the new emagin website, which has more information on the z800's headtracker:

* Rotation Range: 360 degrees (all axis); Mouse emulator mode provides control over 360 degree horizontal and >60 degrees vertical
* Data Update Speed: 125 Hz
* Maximum Latency: 4 milliseconds (from device)
* Drift: 1 degree/5 minutes
* Resolution: 1 degree (yaw, pitch, and roll)

So, what we really need is that API, so applications can take advantage of the full spec.

One point about the colour - it will be washed out unless you activate the digital brilliance option under the Nvidia drivers - then it's fine.

I have read many a post where this thing has dead pixels. Not a good selling feature.

"I have read many a post where this thing has dead pixels. Not a good selling feature."

Juan, dead pixels are not a selling feature, but a somewhat common occurance in SVGA displays, which have 1.44M pixels and subpixels. However, a few dead pixels should not lessen your viewing experience. If they do, I'd suggest returning the visor to the manufacturer for a replacement.

Madjack:

How high do you recommend turning up the nVidia "Digital Vibrance" setting for the z800, so the colors have adequate contrast but still look natural? If the vibrance is set very high for a standard monitor, the image colors take on a bizarre "neon" look.

Juan, you only see dead pixels on a white screen, what you see is little tiny colors. Depending on how many are dead. You wont see them in the game, aleast I dont. I dont see them when using it to view a web site either. The Digital Vibrance does help with certain games that I've tried but in some others it made the screen way to dark, so it depends but it does help. I've had it at the highest.

I usually wack it up all the way. The CRT monitor takes on the 'neon' look as you say, but the Z800 gives good rich colour at this setting. However thinking about it, I might start dropping it down by one as the Z800's yellows/reds seem a bit 'ripe' at this setting. Good for blood splashes though.

cutlass i have use many SVGA displays and none had dead pixels. For $900 I want a top quality display with no dead pixels and blocks light and this does neither. Read the reviews yourself from other boards and they all say what a crappy display this is and it is not worth the money.

"Juan" please do not start the BS. All HMD can get dead pixels. And there are no immersive consumer level HMDs being produced by anyone.

It irritates me how people like 'Juan' can make such statements about a product when it seems fairly likely they've had zero experience with said product.

As for the dead pixels - I've a few in my unit, but they're not noticeable during normal usage. I do have some concern that more and more of them might appear over time - don't know the answer to that.

'cutlass i have use many SVGA displays and none had dead pixels.'
I suspect that it's a problem more prevalent with organic leds than CRT monitors or LCD screens.

Juan, there's an edge to your reply that suggests you are not a gamer at all or at least not one who has really had any HMD exposure. You couldn't have tried any other SVGA OLED microdisplays because the only company making them for market consumption is eMagin, and only a handful make LCD miscrodisplays, such as Kopin's excellent CyberDisplay. Most LCD makers have a dead pixel tolerance policy...over a certain number and they will replace your monitor or display.

In my opinion dead pixels are not a problem. There are other important problems, but not dead pixels.

About digital vibrance... I think is not a solution. You get vivid colors, but it is not natural. You can´t solve a callibration problem increasing saturation. Also this screen needs better contrast.

Mopheta, do you own the Z800? Just trying them out at a show doesn't mean it was setup good enough for everyones liking.. These dead Pix, you can't see them when playing, yes the screen isn't as clear or as sharp as your desktop monitor but look it the size of the two! You want something that clear then your gonna pay more, like buying a house. Everyone that doesn't have them should stop leaving thier REVIEWS or assumptions. Im sure in another few years there will another HMD and the same + and - will be there.. YOU get WHAT you PAID for...

Can´t be done.

KuDawq
Yes, I own. I´ve written about cons and bugs in other posts. Here I only am writting about dead pixels and about vibrance like a not good solution in my opinion.

Only another thing... if this product is not present in the shops to test, and people want to know how it is... would we have to forget + and -?. All people are waiting reviews, man. Sorry if I write about cons, but I´m not a seller of this product, so I can (I must) do it.

Don´t forget that problems are usually posted to see if anybody can do something to solve any of them.

Mopheta, my spanish mate, i see z800 did dissapointed you. I've reading you in this an another forum and i saw you complaining about z800 flaws, distrusting this product because of lack of profesional reviews, dead pixels reported by users and other problems. Because your impatience, you found yourself unable to wait and made the decision to buy one unit despite your fears. You could take the chance of test it like i did going to madrid to see it in person before ordering, but you prefered to bet.

You now only talk about cons, and a exigent point of view about display quality can be seen in your words, but in your annoyance, you forget to talk about the good things.

I think people here is making an opinion about the z800 based in your words that is not accurate, its pessimist.

This is a TOY, an expensive one. If you can afford it, it is cool, inmersive in an adecuatte enviroment (a good game, lights off, headtracking working....) and works for what it was designed. Is it worth that 900$ ? in my opinion TODAY it is worth no doubt about it IF YOU DONT NEED THE MONEY. 3 years in the future there will be better gadgets at better prices, but right now there is nothing like this z800.

Thanks for your helpful info, mopheta, but try to dont scare people.

Note:
SherryB i know cyberworld has been here a lot of time, more than me for sure, but in my opinion he has no right to spill absolutly biased opinions here, spam about his products, war with other vendors, an other commercial actions that (in my opinion, of course) spoil this forum's spirit. It is very offensive to me to read his announcements, but it is probably because i usually read forums were it is prohibited to do what he is doing. If im wrong and he is right, i must apologize but it still dont like what he is doing here.

Mopheta, how heavy you think the trackIR3 is? I hope it is light. Im thinking if it was light enough that I could put the dots on the VFX visor
and make some support for the trackIR to hang over in front of it. Im curious! Give me some info on your experience with it..

Ku,
TrackIR is totally light, it works with only adhesive dots. But if you have the vector expansion you need to place the clip (it has 3 dots), but it is very light. The only problem is to place the clip.

Jorge,
I´m not sure about Z800 quality for other persons. I think it is not enought for me because I prefer to use shutterglasses to play or view Stereo3D (it says everything). Other things and cons to say about is to explain why is has not enought quality for me, and a way to speak about these cons to compare and read different opinions.

I think this product has a lot of good/perfect reviews, but I think there are some people not neutral doing some posts. For me this is a quality toy, but is not what some of these posts said, and if I decide to use shutterglasses before Z800 it mean something... it is not my intention to scare anobody, only to say what I think (there are oposite reviews and no people talking about false promises or exageraions that I understand like that).

I have used some stereo3d systems, compared, and decided what is the better for me, and it is not Z800, but it is the most expensive, so in my opinion the prize is high. I´m not comparing with other HMDs because is not my objetive to have the best HMD in this prize (surely this is), my objeve is to have something better than my shutterglasses+crt monitor.

This Z800 is totally usefull, to prevent scares. And I use it sometimes... I´ve not lost my money.

What do you mean `can't be done' about changing colour balance. In NVidea drivers choose `colour correction' then click `all chanells ' then choose each colour you want to change the balance of. Simple.
