Such displays have 2 LCD flat panels mounted one over the other and a special polarized glass mounted between them. A realistic 3D view can be seen when looking at the glass though correspondingly polarized glasses. Other graphics cards for such displays require a separate add-in card to mirror the image for the top panel. Eliminating the need for this extra card reduces costs and improves reliability. "2 LCD flat panels mounted one over the other and a special polarized glass" -wrong it is a semi transparant mirror ! I tested the SD1710 ,great image quality but also a lot off problems ,only full screen stereo,the two images are not on the same plane due to the thickness off the mirror, problems with the mouse cursor(is it in the first or seond screen) etc... | ||

no need to have a special polarized glass as the lcd screens are already polarized , the top monitor is rotated 180° so are the polarisation plane off each screen. One more problem ,linear polarisation. | ||

Any application can without problem inmplement the StereoMiroro image rotation internaly - this is trivial. I belive Peter and Mr. Sutho codes do have this future - our DQ Server does as well .. | ||

It is not realy a rotation but a mirror image off the top monitor screen that needs to be produced(a (180°)symmetrical rotation around the vertical (y) axis this could "easily" be implemented at the driver level .The two monitors are place top against top so only a mirror image off the top monitor is needed. So any software producing side by side full screen stereo could be used. My advice stick to your crt monitor and glasses as long as you can as it still is ,althoug not perfect , one off the most flexible 3d stereo solution around . | ||

Thank you to "obe" for pointing out an error. It is indeed the panels and not the glass between the panels that's polarized. The second sentence of the release should read: "Such displays have 2 polarized LCD flat panels mounted one over the other and a special glass mounted between them." In the original news release, the word "polarized" was in the wrong place.
