The Win3D company has just released version 3.20 of WINx3D - the stereoscopic library for Windows (tm). Significant upgrades in this release include support for two-monitor displays, for GeForce 3's, for Kyro's, for DirectX8 specific applications, and new options for anaglyph glasses. You can get the updated drivers and a software development kit at www.win3d.com. |

Dependes on whether the interface to VRCaddy has changed with the new release - normally, all you'd have to do to add all bells and whistles to VRCaddy is just to install the full release of WinX3D over VRCaddy... |

Hi All I tried installing WINx3D and VRCaddy pro on my computer with Geforce2 MX Dual VGA, but I've had some problems: DirectDraw test (from wihtin the WINx3D panel) crashes when I choose Dual Video Displays and run DirectDraw test The primary monitor turns black, the secondary has black and blue stripes running across it (It also crashes when I test for example parallel-eye stereoscopy). I've followed the instructions about dual monitor on www.win3d.com. VRCaddy is running minimized. I also checked for anti-aliasing as mentioned on the VRCaddy page, but I had no such option so that should be OK. When starting a game and activating VRCaddy pro, all that happens is that the primary monitor is put into interlaced stereo mode. I don't really have any idea what's wrong, so any input is appreciated. Should I be able to select VRCaddy Pro as Winx3D stereoscopic video driver? It doesn't seem so, as the example page on win3d.com has "Matrox G400" (afair) in it's place. Thing is, I have no way to ensure, that WINx3D is using VRCaddy pro (and I feel, that I should inform WINx3D to use it). Alex My configuration: Win98se Nvidia Detonator 21.81 driver Directx8.0a Desktop set to one monitor aside the other - both running 1064x768 in 16 bit colour. Nvidia Stereo Driver - disabled. PentiumIII 733 MHz Asus V7100/2V1D Geforce2MX graphics card (Dual VGA) |

Thanks for your observations. I'd like to find out what is going wrong. If you don't mind, I'd like to take this problem off-line as a tech support problem. As a quick hunch about what you are seeing, make sure that you have set the "2nd DDraw Device No" to the device for the other eye. This is probably device #3. Also, be sure that you have installed the drivers - option number 1. One situation for VRCaddyPro users is that a change is required to VRCaddyPro to support dual-head displays. The Win3D company has been working with VRStandard to complete this update. I am unsure as to their release schedule. As has been suggested by readers, and claimed by the Win3D company, new stereoscopic support from WINx3D was to not require a recompilation. But, we made a mistake in our early recommendations for developing applications for MultiMon systems. We now have a different recommendation on how to handle a couple of the Windows messages. A small change is necessary to prevent the creation of the new window for the second display from shutting down the stereo on the first display. For Alex's question, VRCaddyPro is not a stereoscopic video driver. It is an application that uses WINx3D. The location where "Matrox G400" is read on the example page is where the video card would be read, such as "nVidia". You can think that WINx3D is a client of VRCaddyPro, and not the other way around. Once you get the updated version of VRCaddyPro (the one that can correctly support dual-head displays), you will automatically be able to use the WINx3D support. VRCaddyPro was written to use the WINx3D library, so you can be ensured that it will use WINx3D. |
