Okay, I have an mpg (mpeg-2) file with audio that I openned in stereo movie maker. I did some alignment adjustments on the video, and burned the finished product to a stereo movie (interlaced/field sequential) .avi file via stereo movie maker. The problem is that the audio seems to have disappeared in the translation to .avi. Isn't Stereo Movie Maker supposed to retain the audio?

If you started with MPEG2, that means you have either MP2 or AC3 or PCM audio (in order of likeliness, if it's homemade). For it to be on the output, it would need to fulfill these requirements: #1, SMM can understand that type of input stream, #2 SMM has code to pass/convert/(re-)compress, and #3 SMM has features for synching/interleaving audio. My guess is it doesn't have all 3 of these. Maybe it could if you had given it an AVI to begin with.

Anyway, you can get around this easily by just demultiplexing the MPEG (use TMPGEnc, "tools/demultiplex" section, which is free for this feature), converting (if needed) to LPCM audio (like wav), and multiplexing with the final AVI (using AVIMuxGUI, AVIMux, etc--also free). It's the same length, so it should still be synching correctly.
Check out http://www.videohelp.com for tools to help you in these areas. (I am there often also)

Good luck,
Scott

Thanks for your help! I have found another work-around. I had done the dumux thing via DVD Decrypter to get the mpeg (M2V) and audio (AC3) portions split up. Once I get my .avi files together in SMM, I convert to .mpg using Digital Media Converter. THEN, I take that .mpg and add back in the audio via Nero "make a movie", which creates a final .mpg file with the sound.

The more I think about it, though, the less I care about keeping the audio and video together for SMM.

Thanks for your help, though! Rob

P.S.: Why does the "keep color" feature create a black and white left-eye image when you open an anaglyph video to convert to FS 3D? I see the right eye image is in color....I have seen this configuration on a few different software programs but I am at a loss as to why this is done.
