I was wondering if anyone out there knew if you could plug a cybermaxx helmet into an ati radeon 9800 xt. Would I need some sort of vga adapter or something else? |

Hello , I get also a CYBERMAXX , and tried to plug it into a newer graphic card (Geforce GTS 250)... I was not able to plug it using VGA Connector (the picture is very strange). I used a convertor VGA to RCA and use the RCA connector of the CYBERMAXX wire to connect it .. It's working very well ... but by doing this , you'll remove 3D STEREO Capabilities of the CYBERMAXX ... The only 3D type you can have that way , is the FRAME SEQUENTIAL ..... but neither IZ3D nor NVIDIA STEREO DRIVERS have support for this type in games ..... I Also got some problem with the HEADTRACKING , so I Changed for a Gyroscopic Mouse mounted on the HMD to avoid it .... CYBERMAXX has a very wide FOV (something around 50° or 60°) .... but a bad picture quality (because it's using a depixellisation filter, that makes the pictures looking a little blurry) ++ |

The Cybermaxx works fine with all gfx cards that have a standard VGA out. The trick here is that the max res is 640x480, so you need to set your windows resolution to that first before you can see anything. I made a little tool for switching the windows res to 640x480 that i have posted in the 3D Applications section. |

Oh another note because someone said you can get "frame sequential" 3D on the cybermaxx and that it won't work with IZ3D... That's not true, the cybermaxx only utilizes Field sequential 3D, not frame sequential. And you can use the cybermaxx with IZ3D. Set IZ3D to interleaved, horizontal (optimised if you want). Then play your game. YOu MUST play the game in 640x480. Some games seem to not support this but i have been able to edit their settings in registry or config files. Armed Assault did not want to offer a 640x480 mode, so i just set it to 1024x768 and looked into the config file and searched for 1024 and changed that to 640. Searched for 768 and changed to 480. And Bingo it works. The resolution of the vinatge devices like cybermaxx, 1995 i-glasses, VFX-1 and so on is however a bit too low to really rule the game. Keep in mind although input is 640x480 it is downscaled to like 240x220 (Or something close to that), so although the general picture looks still great it is impossible to see much detail. In Armed assault i often had problems with enemies very far away - once they reach the "1 pixel" size they are hard to hit. The optics of the cybermaxx are really not top notch, but i did not find them as bad as the weight that rests on your nose. I recommend extreme precaution when playing, better make some additional foam protector for your nose or it will hurt the whole day like mine. |

Hi Fronzel, Thanks for the info ! You're right it support field sequential .. but I was talking about the 3D mode supported by the cybermaxx when you plug it using the RCA connector. Field sequential is the mode supported when you plug the cybermaxx using the VGA pass through connector. Thanks for your tool to switch to 640x480 , it was helpfull for me.. But I still have a little problem , I think i have a problem with the cybermaxx vga cable , as I have 2 windows desktop when i switch to 640x480 (they are clear) ..but i clearly the same pictures side by side on each otpics ... very strange.... I tried Cybermaxx with Crysis (RCA plugged to PC) ..even if the resolution is not so good , it's very immersive... this really old HMD has a very good FOV ... and immersion feeling ... |

Hmmm, i can't really understand your problem with the windows desktop. When i switch to 640x480, i can see it on the cybermaxx as it should be, there is only one desktop and no side-by-side picture... Do you have dual monitor support enabled in your graphics card? |

Yes .. My Graphic card is configured using NVidia control panel , to configulre in mode "clone" (same pictures for both VGA ouptuts). I should see the same picture on my cybermaxx as what i have on my Monitor .... I looked clse to the VGA connector of the Cybermaxx , and I see that some pins are missing, is this normal ? By the way , I'm using the Cybermaxx 1.0 (the first they made) I do not plug the cybermaxx using only one oouptut on my graphic card, and plugging the monitor on the "vga passthrough" connector of the cybermaxx. I have my Monitor on VGA output 1 , and Cybermaxx on VGA Output 2.. thanks for your help ! Marc. |

Hmmm i have an NVidia 8600GT and have had EXTREME problems using the second output. You should try to set your NVidia to ONE display only, so it only uses VGA output 1. The switch to 640x480 with my tool and plug in the cybermaxx on VGA1, forget the VGA passthough, it's just to test it is working right. If you see the normal desktop (Keep in mind the resolution in the helmet is not real 640x480 but sclaed down so it is a bit blurred.) as you should then your problem is not the cybermaxx but the NVidia driver. There is a reg fix in the nvidia forums to enable the old control panel, this helped me a lot to use the secondary VGA, but it definitely IS buggy, many many people having issues with this as i have seen on the nvidia forums. Do as i advised so you can check it is NOT a problem with your cybermaxx. |

Hi Fronzel , Thanks for the tips, I'll try it tonight after work and let you know ... So you have any tips for using HeadTracking of the CYBERMAXX as a Mouse emulation in Windows XP ? Marc. |

On my site you can download the SDK and a windows tracker suite. This is not a real mouse emulator, but one could easily program one out of that i think. I did not program one myself as i must admit regarding the vintage headsets i rather use the 1995 i-Glasses - the cybermaxx is really heavy on the nose. Maybe i can be arsed to make a mouse emulator for the tracker, but it costs much time as i'm not that familiar with that. There is a mouse emulator for DOS in the utilities. http://www.tankraider.com/VR/vr.htm |
