It's all a matter of optics, and the requirement that the viewer(s) see a different image with the Left eye vs. the Right eye. Autostereo monitors work because of the exact, specific positional relationship between the viewer(s) and the monitor screen allows the viewer(s) to see the disparate images discreetly without the need of prostheses. A major change in position will defeat the effect. That is why there are few, if any, autostereo monitors that work with multiple viewers. I don't see this as changing until such time as stereoscopic images can easily (and cheaply) drive a volumetric or holographic projector. Then, both the focus/convergence problem and the multiple viewer problem will be solved. Hopefully, this will happen quite soon. Scott (aka Cornucopia) |
