Hi, I am a newbie with no technical expertise.I'm hoping that someone can be more help than the Edimensional support team. Basically my new VFX 3D converter only gives me a black and white picture. I have run a DVD player and my Playstation through it. The support team said "I am not sure why it\'s black and white but I would guess it has to do with the signal type. You could try a different DVD player, or possibly use the s video instead of the regular video yellow cord connector." Have just tried s video cable from playstation to VFX box and s video cable into connector plugged into scart socket on tv: still only B&W. Have tried two different tv's, both portable cheapie tv's (PAL as I live in the UK). Only clue is I tried a gamecube through it using yellow, red and white plugs (don't know what they are called) into connecter to scart socket and got a very grainy reddish picture which suggests the VFX box isn't at fault itself. Any suggestions from anybody would be really appreciated as it's very frustrating to have it half working like this! |

Sounds like your TV accepts PAL (and possibly PAL60, a fudging NTSC workaround), but not TRUE NTSC, and the VirtualFX box doesn't like PAL (and possibly not PAL60 either), but -ONLY- NTSC. In their defense, it does say on their site that they DON'T recommend this for PAL systems. You could check this by seeing if you have a friend/acquaintance/employer/store that has -true- standards-converting equipment and trying it on their system. HTH, Scott |

I had to email the head of the company in the end (search their website for his name) and complain. Their customer services immediately got in touch (usually a day or two wait), accepted it was faulty and authorised a return and exchange. Be warned they have a maximum refund on postage so don't insure it, just make sure you get a certificate of posting. I got a new unit that works better so they DO work ok in the UK, but sometimes you have to turn it on and off a few times to get it to 'boot' in colour. To be honest, having been so excited to get it, I find I never use it now as the 3D effect is not very impressive, the brightness of the screen is reduced and the flickering although bearable is always noticeable. My advice: don't exchange, hassle for a refund and use your money on something else. Good luck, Ian |

Since it's using L/R Interleaving of a standard Bandwidth/Framerate signal, it's expected that the flickering would be noticeable, and that the brightness would be reduced, as those are the usual byproducts of a Lowered Framerate. re: 3D effect... I've always thought that the device, ingenious as it is, is just a glorified Pulfrich formatter--which is just a form of ***PSUEDO-STEREO***. Recovery of depth from sequential-frame picture differences CAN be 1 tool of a number of tools for NON-realtime conversion of monoscopic material into stereoscopic, but that's about as far as I'd use it. Sorry the device didn't meet with your expectations, though. Scott |
