Hi, people I recently e-bought an icuiti v920 unit for my 3d video recording rig in project (i need something 3d capable and portable for seeing in real time the 3d effect while recording) and looking here and there (especially HERE, on stereo3d's fantastic Hmd list) i found that the most portable 3d capable (field sequential) googles are the icuiti v920 and the i-visor from daeyang (much more weight, size and price). Finally i won an good ebay auction, so here i am with two z800 and a v920. I'll share my first experiences with the v920 and compare it with emagin's googles. As i dont plan using it for the same things, this info will not be very detailed/deep, but hope helps people to decide what is better to their needs. The icuiti is TINY. Really PORTABLE! thin googles, lightweight small video box two standard AA batteries and go! the drawback is that without headstrap (it relies on nose and behind your ears, like all glasses) does not feel secure, it moves easily. This small size aplies too for the viewing area, that lets you see all around the front lens. While this is NO help for inmmersive factor (it needs much more to play in a dark backround than Z800 to eliminate light distractions) for my needs is welcome because i need to see what i'm recording while walking and see all the whole scene to decide what part to shoot to. Diagonal viewing degrees: buff.... i do not know what would be my opinion about inmersiveness with the icuiti and its 26� field of view if i didnt test the z800 before. Is just like night and day. Its crap compared to z800. not for 3d playing at all in my opinion. I remember people complaining abot the 120"screenatnorememberhowmuchfeetdistance-like marketing comparison of the z800, but this 40"at9feetmonitor-like screen size of the icuiti is like looking through a lock eye (ok i'm exaggerating, but a really small window is accurate). This has a cool advantage: now i LOVE the field of view of my z800s, it looks bigger now ! The 26� vs the 42� is not almost 1/2 image size. It looks like almost 1/4 image size. About image quality, i havent done test with it, but at first impression, z800 handsdown wins: brighter (selectable), richier colors, bigger resolution makes text readable, etc.. The lens system of the v920 is simple: adjust both screens with a stick giving more or less diopthries?, no interpupilar distance. I wonder less fov means less need to be exact with the calibration because is easier to 100% overlap the images? Must do more tests. At fist sight z800 do the job with practice and tweaking, but dont know if icuiti's blurr is because the small res, the small fov, optics, my fault or what. In a quick (perhaps wrong) conclusion i think z800 is a NO BRAINER WINNER for ALL uses except in rare case as mine i need something with batteries and minimize "geek" factor because the size OR your video signal is composite or s-video (z800 does not work with) Remember too the icuiti only accept 640x480 signals (VGA,composite s-video) and z800 800x600. z800 has too headtracking capabilities, and now that price dropped so much..... (i paid much more for them) Hope this help |
