Well, I spent a lot of time and money setting up what I thought would be a really nice 3D display system, unfortunatly I'm getting a LOT of ghosting. The setup is as follows: NVidia Quadro4 900 XGL with driver version 91.31 21 inch ViwSonic P815 CRT 1280 x 1024 @ 100 Hz or 800 x 600 @ 144 Hz CrystalEyes CE-2 Shutter Glasses running off the 3pin DIN (ELSA) port Stereo Photo Maker for viewing 3D images The system functions, but the ghosting is pretty bad. What's wrong? Is ghosting "normal" for such a complex system? Seems to me like it should work better. Am I missing something here or are my expectations just too high? I expect the problem is either that the shutter glasses are not blocking enough light or the screen phospher is too slow, or (hopfully) I have a setting wrong somewhere. I have two pair of glasses, both exhibit the same "problem". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ken |

You will have always ghosting with CRT monitor. This effect is cold "slow green phosphors". The monitor is slow, not the glasses ... Solution: InFocus DepthQ projector. Fine toned 3D DLP technolgy has no problems with ghosting. |

My recomendations: 1.lowering of bright (and or contrast) of monitor (I use the lowest possible brightnes). 2.Perform test with refresh lowering (95,90 or 85Hz is no so bad). 3.Use this setup in low light enviroment. 4.Testing of other monitor. 5.Principially, DLP is better than CRT.This is true. Ghosting on CRT is on stereoscopic pictures in high contrast bright pictures. I use 21" old NEC Multi sync P1150 and ghosting with e-dimensional glasses is no so bad. |

Thanks for your replies. I am considering a projection system, but the price of a "bunch" of shutterglasses for the DepthQ projector (and the projector) is just too high. I will probably go wiht two DLP projectors and passive circular polarizers, which is probably less than 1/4 of the price condidering I would like to be able to put on a show for at least 10 people at once. Anything I should watch out for here? For my personal viewing I have decided to abandon the CRT / ShutterGlasses, and convert to dual LCD displays with a vertical front surface mirror. Ken |

Hi,you can use normally consumer DLP projestor, i use 1 piece of Benq PB 6240,and e-dimensional shutterglasses. Is XGA, 85 Hz,active and wery nice setup. And no expensive. The 6240 is in this time no on market. The new MP720p I are tested is OK at 85 Hz with e-dimensional shutterglasses, had only no so good zoom. And no specially screen is necesarry. Of course. Active DLP home projection is realistic in price cca 1000 EUR or lower. (Projector+glasses) the glasses are from 15 to 100EUR. Polarising passive system is too expensive (polarisers,2PJ, screen). Please see this think this are good infos for you: http://www.stereo3d.com/discus/messages/3175/4157.html?1159902485 |

Generaly Hornet is wrong ... 85 Hz is absolutley not acceptable from flickering point of view and normal DLP projectors produce color deformation and ghosting, becosouse they do not have timing optimized for 3D ... I am sure other people will disagre, but this is preimary becose they had never seen how it shoudl look correct and they can not do the comparison .. Polarized projection produce ghsoting as well + it is alomis imposisible to use it for 2D (the proejectors do not overlap) ... I suggest you to request somwehere a demo of 3D optimized projector like InFocus DepthQ or Christie Mirage ... I am sure the dealer will be able to emluate with this device work of non-stereoscopic DLP projectror and show you the diference in quality ... |

It is true, 100 or 120 Hz is better than 85 Hz. In situation when the budget is limited is 85 hz no so bad. And little R/L color differences is absolutly no problematic. Have cca 200 hours of 3D stereo simulated flights performed (some 2-3 hours long) absolutly problemless. From my sight is consumer DLP PJ ideal for home 3D use for "normal peoples". the other side of this is XGA 1024x768 resolution od Benq and 800x600 of DeepQ. With brain antialiasing is XGA subj. sharp as 1400x1000 resolution. And for use with Matrox Dual2Go is this 1024x768 native resolution (x2) ideal. The best way for good purchase with satisfaction is self testing of all possibilities (Consumer DLP, DeepQ,). |
