I am greatly disturbed by this recent price hike. I suspect that might be the reason they locked the forums (to avoid disgruntled potential customers). Honestly, I was thinking about purchasing one of these today, but after seeing the new price, not so much. I cant even imagine what they'd be thinking, first they release for $950, then drop to $550 (guessing the first price was too much) then they jump to $1500, triple the previous price and making them more expensive than competing products. I'm looking at TDVisor right now, which is supposedly coming out in April for $500: http://www.tdvision.com/. Sorry e-magin, but I will be taking my business elsewhere. |

Speaking of the TDVisor: Has anyone on these forums actually examined a prototype of the TDVisor at any trade shows? I own a Z800 3D Visor and am disappointed in its stereoscopic image quality. (The 800 x 600 resolution shows visible pixels. The OLED screens have "hot spots" and "noise" which interfere with the 3-D effect. Despite eMagin's claims of OLED superiority to LCD technology, the colors appear somewhat washed out, and this doesn't seem to improve with color or gamma adjustments.) I would be interested in purchasing a TDVisor if -- but only if -- it can produce a stereoscopic display superior to that of the Z800. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the two HMDs? |

Wow that price hike is crazy, I belive they initially lowered the price because the trimersion was a keen competitor, though it had a lower resolution it was wireless and came with a gun for a lower price. Can anyone confirm this? It would appear that the company that makes the Trimersion is no longer in business, I say this because their website is down and they went for a aug06 release and it has kinda vanished since then. Now that the competition is out of the way a price hike of $1000 still gives them a good priced product. Though we know it isn't. Either that or it is a conspiracy. Maybe the goverments of the world are afraid to let VR get into the mass public domain, esspecially as the quality is getting better, I mean why do anything like work... if you can do anything or go anywhere shhh their watching lol (Message edited by genghischris on February 17, 2007) |

As it turns out, it looks like eMagin is seriously in the red. I doubt the companies going to be around much longer. Supposedly all their venture capital has run out and the CEO jumped ship. So they are now under new management, talking about taking them in a different direction. Rumor has it that they are no longer producing the z800 and they might just be clearing out the current stock. You can read more here: http://www.3dvisor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=894 Don't bother doing business with this company, they deserve to go under for this. Any management that would triple the price of a product without warning, and then lock the public forums, is a horrible company. Who is going to pay $1499 for something without any support? Hell, it doesn't look like they were selling for $550, why would they sell for 3 times the price? This kinda stuff is really sad. I'm starting to doubt vr will ever make mainstream. |
