We will achieve an even larger screen size in the future. Right now we have a virtual 108 inch diagonal screen. This is the first high definition HMD on the market. We are looking for mass adoption of stereo 3D technology. |

Another question. Is there replacement lens that increase horizontal FOV to around 60 degree. This is the point where total immersion cuts in. The virtical FOV is less of factor in immersion. |

If you guys re-do the optics such that it has 60 degrees of horizontal FOV, it would be a lot more salable. With the HD version, you are talking about 20 pixels/per degree, which is good enough. Better yet, make FOV 90 degrees with 50% overlap. If you want to go even wider FOV without sacrificing clarity(same display resolution), there is a way to do it. |

Ethan, A technical question for you. The microdisplay you guys are using on the HMD. Are they CFS displays? |

Max, We are using Color Filter LCoS (CFLCoS), which is different from Color Field Sequential LCoS (CFSLCoS). We use spatial color separation in our CFLCoS, while the CFSLCoS uses temporally separation of colors. There are different techniques to achieve Color by using an LCoS 1. Color Pixellization (Color Filter) 2. Multiple LCOS panels (LCoS array, one for R, one for G and one for B and using optics to overlap the three images) 3. Field-Sequential color (Time multiplex of colors, providing the RGB colors at different times) Color Filter LCoS (CFLCoS): The first method is generally not used because of the expense of patterning color filters onto such small displays. LCoS Array: The second method is common in large projectors and projection monitors. CFS LCoS (CFS LCoS): The third technique is commonly used with virtual displays. Field sequential color (FSC) consists of separating color temporally rather than spatially. This necessitates extremely fast switching, at least 3 times as fast as a video frame – several hundred Hz. FSC is easily achieved with ferroelectric devices and micromirror devices, but these are more difficult and expensive to manufacture than nematics LCDs. We use the first option, it's more expensive but it gives the best resolution and you can not see any flicker or pixel boundaries. (Message edited by eschur on November 26, 2007) |

While the type of LCOS displays we are using does not greatly influence the optics design we are always researching new ways to increase our FOV. It takes early adopters like you to help us ship units and make iterations. |

Actually your HD model is specified with 1280x720p (not 1280x768), right? If yes, this means 920 000 pixels per color or 2,76 megapixel total, right? What is the contrast ratio? Does this model support field sequential 3d PAL on its S-video and composite inputs? Which frame rates are supported on the TDV DB15 input (is it VGA?)? |

If you go through the 'pre-order' process they will contact you to secure the funds, which is about $1000 for the SD (800x600) version. Once the funds are taking care of they build it and 4-6 weeks later they send it to you. So, while they do not sell them retail they are available. |
