Hello! I'm new to the community and I'm hoping to get a bit of guidance on the ideal and minimum hardware requirements on a PC to comfortably run the Nvidia stereo 3D drivers to play current games such as World of Warcraft, Neverwinter Nights 2, or other graphics intensive games. I ask because although I have a 3D head mounted display, my current computer (which admittedly is 2 years old) can only seem to handle older games and the demo program. I am at present trying to decide between a laptop and desktop system, and although I much prefer a laptop for it's size and mobility, I am concerned that even with the fairly decent specs (by laptop standards) it still won't be enough to play the games I enjoy in 3D. As I'm sure you're aware, Laptops tend to have a bit less power than desktops, and ... in the case of the two systems I'm looking at for the same price the differences are quite significant. Anyway... both computers are from Alienware. If there are any folks who have experience with this stuff I'd be most appreciative. Here are the specs: Laptop: Intelョ Core・2 X7900 2.8GHz ・Extreme Edition (4MB Cache 800MHz FSB) 512MB NVIDIAョ GeForceョ 8800M GTX 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz ・2 x 2048MB Intelョ Turbo Memory (1GB) ・Accelerate Data Transfer Speed 200GB 7200RPM (16MB Cache) 8x Dual Layer Burner (DVDアRW, CD-RW) w/ LightScribe Technology Internal Intelョ Wireless 4965 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card Internal High-Definition Audio with surround sound Desktop: Intelョ Core・2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz FSB Dual 768MB NVIDIAョ GeForceョ 8800 GTX - SLI Enabled Ageia PhysX PCI-Express Processing Unit w/ 128MB GDDR3 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 x 1024MB Extreme Performance (RAID 0) -- 500GB (2 x 250GB) SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 2 x 16MB Cache Drive 1: 20X Dual Layer Burner (DVDアRW) Drive 2: 20X Dual Layer Burner (DVDアRW) w/ LightScribe High-Definition 7.1 Performance Audio Note: If the laptop will do the 3D stuff that I want without any problems, I'd probabally take it over the desktop in spite of the difference in performance because I like having a smaller machine. |
