Hello all!

We just finished an interview with NVIDIA's Andrew Fear about the company's return to the stereoscopic 3D market, and what that entails for gamers in particular.

http://www.gamecyte.com/is-your-gaming-future-in-stereoscopic-3d

We'll have a follow-up interview with IZ3D soon.

Enjoy, and if there are any important questions I failed to ask, please let me know at sean@gamecyte.com. I intend to follow up with both parties as their schedules permit.

There is one important thing you didnt ask and that is GHOSTING.

If possible ask that guy if Ghosting is an issue on those 120 Hz LCDs and if it is better or worse than on a CRT.

Thanks Hans, I'll see if I can do that in a follow-up.

Meanwhile, here's part two of the series, an interview with IZ3D:

Thanks a lot for your efforts Sean.
I am glad that you asked IZ3D about Ghosting, although they might have prefered not to touch that topic...

i own a z800 visor and am putting together a parts list for a desktop that will produce page flipping stereo to drive the z800. emagin has told me that only the nvidia 6xxx and 7xxx series cards, with the latest forceware driver and on windows xp only, support page flipping 3d. if anyone could offer advice on whether to go with a system using a nvida 7950 and win xp with old drivers or wait for this new stereo 3d push from nvidia to make my z800 compatible with vista and the 8xxx and 9xxx series cards? any info is appreciated.

ps. i am a vr enthusiast and have recently become interested in flight simulators (possibly even building one).

Hi Eryk,
better than Z800 are for 3D projectors (older typs from Benq)they works with shutterglasses, it is possible use 2 or 3 projectors with Matrox adapters (Triple or DualHead2Go) in 3D an with Trackir headtracking.

More here:

video is in 2D , i use this setup with shutterglasses :-)

to jerry
well the first flight sim i bought and played is fsx but it does not support 800x600 out of the box. you can play the game in a windowed mode and i might be able to shrink that to 800x600 but have not tried yet. my setup is currently the z800, trackir 4, and the saitek x52 throttle and yoke. the trackir appears more accurate and infinately more precise than the z800's tracking. i am currenly researching building a motion platform for a flight sim. acesim.com has details or search for tronicgr on youtube and look at some of his videos using old windsheild wiper motors to move the flight sim in 2dof. i am going to try x plane soon and the website says it has built in support for driving motion platforms. what i am eventually looking for is a combat flight sim with online multiplayer.

to peter
the setup in that video is great with the fabricated cockpit. i am not a fan of two projector setups because of the seam they leave in the middle of the picture. i own a epson emp 81 3lcd projector which is fairly old and only accepts 480i( to my knowledge) and an optoma hd70 dlp darkchip2(7 segment wheel i believe). for what its worth the epson is projectod onto a da lite matte white screen and the optoma is a da lite high power fabric. i do not own shutter glasses but i will probobly end up getting some when/if i get a second 720p projector to use in tandem with the optoma.

let me know what you think and what setups youz guys are running.

Hi,
have Z800 too, no bad for some applications, for 3D active stereo with DLP Pjs it is necesarry good decission of type of PJ (only some PJ are 85 Hz 3D stereo compatible) on this forum it is the "positivliste". Benq MP720,721, are good, some XGA, the new types 720p or higher res are for 3D problematic, this is reason of my 2PJ setup (2048x768 85 Hz active stereo) - totally amazing for flightsims (use Condor soaring simulator). The central line is in 3d no problem, my FOV is above 90 gr horisontal - rel.good.Trackir headtracking give my 180 gr horisontal FOV.The active 3D stereo with shutterglasses (no special screen is needed) is simple and relat. cheap and give for this setup 80% better imersion than 2D.

PS:this cockpit is from original sailplane, all electronic and instruments panel are homemade, the software for instruments (on second PC running) is simmeters soaring suite from simmeters. For Condor it is free in this time new soft. for instruments on separate LCD panel.
