Well, I've been after a 3D TV for some time now. I have a Benq MP721 projector but don't really have the space to use it as often as I would like. I read a lot of reviews about Samsung's PS50A476 "3D Ready" plasma TV, although most reviews didn't even mention 3D! The ones that did spoke about ghosting problems. It is now 2 years since the A476 was released and Samsung has 2 new 3D ready Plasma TVs, the PS42B451 and the PS50B450/1. I decided it was time to get one, I opted for the PS50B451. The picture quality for normal 2D viewing is extremely good and for HD it is stunning (even though it's only 720p/1080i and not 1080p). But this is a Stereo 3D forum, so what about 3D on this Plasma? Well, I thought that, as 2 years have passed since Samsung's last attempt at a 3D plasma, they would have moved on and sorted the ghosting problem. Well, unfortunately, they haven't - but it's not all bad news... Trying to view in 3D mode with the "out of the box" settings is almost unbearable, the ghosting is so bad. However, after playing around with the Cell Light (pixel brightness), contrast and brightness settings, I was able to almost eliminate the ghosting which made 3D viewing a much more pleasant experience. It does come at a cost though! I had to turn the contrast waaayy down, which meant that the colours don't look as vibrant and the blacks are more like dark greys. But it's worth it to have virtually ghostless 120Hz 3D. So, here's my conclusion... If you live in the USA, go with a Mitsubishi/Samsung 3D ready DLP TV. If you live in the UK or Europe and you have pleanty of disposable income, import one of the 3D DLP TVs. If, however, you are like me and live in the UK/Europe and don't have a fortune to spend, go with the Samsung PS50B451, OK it's not brilliant for 3D, but it's certainly adequate, and for normal 2D viewing it's hard to beat - I've directly compared it with Hitachi, Panasonic Vierra and Sony and, for normal or HD viewing, it is unbeatable! Oh, and by the way, I use Elsa/e-dimensional wireless shutter glasses. |

I had another play with the settings this lunchtime. This time I turned the contrast and brightness up high and adjusted the brightness, contrast, digital vibrance and gamma using Nvidia control panel. Using these adjustments I was almost able to eliminate ghosting - Once I had done that I went back and changed the settings on the TV itself and voila! Zero ghosting. With the digital vibrance turned up the colours are bright too - the only thing that stops it being perfect now is the blacks looking dark grey - it's better than it was earlier and I can certainly live with it for my 3D movies! So, it is possible to get completely ghostless 3D on a Samsung Plasma TV - just takes a LOT of configuring the picture settings to get it spot on! I am really happy with my TV now!! £459.99 for a 50" 3D Plasma TV - pretty good value!! |

Hello, I bought the same tv. What are your settings to avoid ghosting? Also, what glasses are you using? Thanks, Ouais |
