Here's another HMD teardown; this time a full disassembly of the stereoscopic wide field of view Virtual Research VR-4. This is the first in a line of four Virtual Research HMDs which use the same optical system: a glass aspheric coated triplet. At 30mm diameter, these lenses have a wide exit pupil (easy to align your eyes with the lens), and accommodate viewers with eyeglasses. Documentation for the VR-4 is also available for free on the site. Thanks for watching. VRtifacts.com |

Thanks a bunch for this teardown, I actually just started looking for teardowns of the V8 and the MRG2.2 last week, so finding such recent info is really a nice surprise. I have found some 1.3" panels in higher resolutions (You can strip them from a few different projectors, same with driver board), but they are all widescreen. Because of that, a lot of the screen would be in the very distorted edge of the viewing field... I have a few other ideas, but none of them are remotely cost effective at this point in time. LCoS tech is always getting to a lower price point, though, Q4 2010 is gonna be a fun time for that. |

I'll be doing tear down videos of the V6 shortly. Essentially the same mechanics, optics, and control box as the V8. VRtifacts.com |
