I bought an X3d boxed set with glasses, driver, and some games. First I had to get rid of the LCD monitor and find a CRT. I have an nVdia graphics card and everything seemed to install OK. But I installed some of the demo games and there just isn't much 3d effect at all. Honestly, the game looks better when NOT wearing the 3d glasses. The glasses appear to be working (when held to the light you can see a very fast flicker). The x3d driver appears to be working... so I don't know if the system is just crappy or I have something set up wrong. there appear to be nearly infinite variables and the manual gives no advice. Firstly there's a dozen resolution settings I could set the monitor too. Then the driver can do interlaced, page-flip, or some other mode. Then there's stereo on, normal, invert, or off (I think this just turns the 3d effect on or off). The manual says it works best with high refresh rate (something like 120hz) but I think my monitor only goes to 75hz. Is there an optimization guide for this hardware? I realize the company has gone out of business (or at least the 3dworld.com site is gone) |

Hello the X3D glasses work only on crt monitor with 120hz refresh rate, Nvidia cards 7000 series only (ForceWare drivers 71.89, 78.01, 84.21, 91.31 or 162.50 at the very latest with their respective 3D stereo enabling counterparts. 162.50 were the last drivers to suppord 3rd party glasses.) - a GeForce 7900GS, 7800gtx, 7900GT, 7900GTX or 7950 older card. Those were the last cards to fully support 3rd party glasses. Reportedly 8800 gtx, 8800 gts (the old one with 320 and 640 mb ram) and 8800 Ultra cards can be made to work with lots of hacking, but only for DirecX (so no OpenGL). For the drivers you have 3 solutions: 1)Old School 3d stereo driver: Requirements: GeForce 7, windows XP and a CRT monitor, old school stereo driver: 91.31 or 162.50 driver combo: forceware + stereo driver For refresh rate with your crt monitor non 120 hz capable set the resolution to 800x600 and set the max refresh rate. 2)Iz3d driver + crt monitor for new directx games 3)Tridef driver + crt monitor for new directx games. |

Thanks Vito! I will check what exactly the video card and driver are. When I was experimenting, I could only get it to 75hz. When I went higher, the monitor said "Frequency out of range". I only experimented with 4 sources of 3d: 1) When you first install the X3d driver, there is a test image shown. This actually did seem to work OK, which is surprising, because I was using an LCD monitor at the time! 2)If you right click on the X3d driver and select Properties, there is a 'test' button (only if you select Interlaced) that will make a small image appear which is supposed to be 3d (though it never looked right to me) 3) I installed the game from the 'kids games' CD; AxySnake 4) I installed another game called something like 'wacky driver' or similar. The games play fine when not using the glasses, and I can't always tell when the 3d effect is supposed to be happening... I will poke around the system and see if it will tell me the driver info.
