No one knows right now but maybe besides field sequential, it will show up in Sensio format? Hopefully that dreadful anaglyph is going out of style. |

Has anyone used or purchased the IMAX 3D video box advertised on this (and other) web sites? http://www.razor3donline.com/dvdul3dex.html How close to the "original" IMAX 3D movie effects does this system duplicate? Several original IMAX 3D movies have been transferred to DVD's, and are included, for $74.95. How well does this set top box with wireless glasses compare to the actual IMAX movie theater presentation? Thanks for any information you may have. |

If Polar Express were to come out in DVD on a large scale in 3D it has to be in anaglyph or one of the related color filtered formats. People like Annonymous (March 14) are right in calling anaglyph dreadful. Actually it doesn't have to be, it is mainly the crappy glasses and misguided approach to the processing that make most anaglyph so bad. It is possible to get about 85% of the quality of polarized 3D, using colored glasses, but not the ones you've been asked to use before. The solution is the process the film into RGB Anachrome, and view it with their special plastic glasses. The glasses increase the sharpness in the RED channel on HD and good Trinitron TV monitors. The red is seen very faintly through the blue/green (cyan) filter with very little ghosting as Anachrome video reproceses the color ghosting to largely disappear. A film like POLAR EXPRESS has lotsof blue, yellow, white, skin, and organic colors...only the crowds of elves at the North Pole village have lot of RED, and of course Santa! These reds are muted a bit to reduce retinal; rivalry. When a film is truly processed for Anachrome it can look quite good. Recently we did a test for Warners for "Kiss Me Kate". In the famous song and dance number "Too darn hot!" Ann Miller is seen in a hot pick outfit. In ordinary anaglyph color she would be seen in the left eye dressed in an almost white pink outfit, in right eye you would see her in a blue outfit that was quite dark. This doesn't blend to "hot pink". In the Anachrome test, she was wearing a pinker that white outfit in the left eye, and a darker pinkish lavender in the right eye. After the mental blend, in seeing it with bother eyes she is dancing in a hot pink outfit!!! Just like magic. You really need to see this stuff to appreciate it! The plastic glasses and the smooth blend of color make a huge difference. |

> It is possible to get about 85% of the quality of polarized 3D Any proof for this statement? For me, this is not true, and I know lot's of other people complaining about anaglyphs, even optimized ones. But there is a minority which considers anaglpyhs almost as good as polarized technology, so this seems to be a highly subjective issue. Does anybody know of papers on this topic? Peter |

The tests were done in early 2004. They never went with anybody on an anaglyph release on either KISS ME KATE or anything else. Big studios can be very slow in making a choice. Today, I spoke to the very biggest theater conglomerate in the world's operation V.P. at length, about anaglyph & polarized Cine 160 3D format. In 2004 Warners V.Ps said they liked our wider color range and plastic glasses..and something may well happen with Polar Express on HD DVD or Blu-Ray 3D. We spoke again to Warners last week. The SHARK BOY movie is doing poorly because of lousy paper glasses and grossly desaturated compositing. The big players are begining to take a lot more interest in our unconventional RGB approach to anaglyph glasses and processing. We'll begin to ship our glasses to theaters next week to offer an alternative to the crappy slit eyed glasses being provided to SHARK BOY patrons. Those glasses are flawed because they cancel almost completely. That's great for polarizers, but gives a terrible effect in anaglyph. I'm afraid many of you are caught up in "linear thinking". Even if polarized are best with max cancellation, that does NOT automatically apply to anaglyph because that is the root cause of RETINAL RIVALRY syndrome. |

its true ,anaglyph looks poor on standard NTSC tv. now however anaglyph looks very good on HDTV. the amazing improvement is when you see anaglyph shot with the new high definition Sony HD1 mini 1080i camcorder useing a BensLens.now the stunning thing is to see HD anaglyph footage displayed on one of the new 1080p HDTV systems, wow!!!!!! |

Hey anaglyphHDrules, I have a BensLens but have not used it for video yet, did you have to do anything aditional to it in order to fit the camera on it safely? And how does it do with quick pans and hand held footage? Thanks. |

So, back to the original subject... I understand that Polar Express is probably going to be released this fall in some 3D format. The questions are 1) Is this confirmed, or just scuttlebutt, and 2) which format? Anybody hear anything? |

upm: If tey will relise Poalr Express in 3D it will be probably in ninterlaced DVD or Ledt/Right Sensio DVD format ... Resolution cripled to 1/2 of NTSC in both cases :-(. When I was last tiem speaking with IMAX people, they ahd no planes for such release. |
