Hello, I would like to know whether it's possible to edit L & R fields of stereo footage captured using (e.g.) NuView stereo adaptor. What I want to do is be able to alter the content of one field (e.g., the Left/odd field) frame by frame using Final Cut Pro or other editing software. I'm not making wedding or sporting videos - my interest is in vision science and experimental animation. So what I want to do is probably not in the manuals. I was told I would need to 'de-interlace' the fields so that I can edit L & R fields separately. Being from a non-technical background, I need to know if this can be done before I purchase the adaptor. Can anyone help with this query? Look forward to hearing something. Cheers, Rose |

What you are wanting to do is very common, but since I've never used FCP, I can't tell whether or not you can do it with that program. Since I've never heard of anyone using it for this purpose, I have my doubts :-) I have done it with After Effects, Premiere, and a few other Windows freeware programs (VirtualDub and StereoMovie Maker, for example). If it can be done with FCP, you will need to deinterlaced two applications of the movie, with one application removing one field and the other application removing the other field. You should be able to use the same method that I use with AE, and that is you deinterlace 60i 3D to 60p, then create a composition with a 30fps frame rate, and place the footage on the timeline so that it shows only the proper perspective. You could then render a separate left and right perspective. But then comes the next problem, and that is how do you put them back together into a stereoscopic format(?), and that might be something that you cannot do with FCP, unless someone has written a special plugin or something. I prefer After Effects, because it has an interface very similar to Photoshop, where you can drag side-by-side (or over/under) movies into one composition window (and a bunch of other things, like nesting compositions). You'll probably need plugins to do the stereoscopic conversions with Premiere, but Michal Husak, who is on this forum quite a bit has written plugins for Premiere for that purpose. I am assuming they work on a Mac :-) -- P. K. Kid Stereoscopic 3D images and movie clips (all G-rated): http://www.puppetkites.net |

Thanks for the information - much appreciated. I gues when I mentioned FCP I was generalising. AfterEffects I'm somewhat familiar with so I'll try as you suggest. The problem does seem to be how to re-interlace after editing fields separately. You suggest AfterEffects makes this more do-able, so I'll try that. The issue will also be finding plugins for Mac. OK, many thanks for your time. Cheers. |

Dear P. K. Kid, date your competence, I want to make a question you. I have intention to acquire a NuView Adaptor with which converting the flow video stereo in anaglyph. I ask to you if me you can indicate a way in order to obtain it. Thank you, Pino |

You can do it with stereoscopic software, including freeware like StereoMovie Maker, http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stvmkr/index.html or Stereoscopic Player for on-the-fly conversions, http://mitglied.lycos.de/stereo3d/ but converting "interlaced" (or sometimes called "interleaved" or "field sequential"), like the NuView produces to anaglyph creates interlace artifacts, i.e., a progressive anaglyph is best when made from two full resolution video streams. You can still do it, though, of course. -- P. K. Kid Stereoscopic 3D images and movie clips (all G-rated): http://www.puppetkites.net |

All the anaglyphs on my site are "progressive" anaglyphs, but I have to deinterlace two separate left and right interlaced (2D) videos to make a "progressive" pair for the anaglyph. It would be best to start with two progressive camcorders, of course, because deinterlacing of any kind is never perfect: http://www.puppetkites.net I use two Sony Handycams and a Sync Shepherd for my video stuff: http://www.puppetkites.net/?p=6 I use Adobe After Effects for editing, but there is freeware available for the PC to do basically the same thing: http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stvmkr/index.html Roger (PKK) -- Roger's 3D Adventures: www.puppetkites.net |

http://www.ledametrix.com/lcdsync/ But this only monitors sync... nothing more. How you get that sync is up to you. I turn one cam off and on until I get what I want, but that is obviously a bit of a hassle. If your cams have LANC, I would get a LANC Shepherd: http://www.ledametrix.com/lancshep/index.html Roger |

I've been working with Final Cut Express converting NuView 3-D footage now. 3d.disneyfans.com and e-mail me; I'll be placing a page up as soon as I learn a few more things. |

i have a Mac G4 how were you able to deinterlace your NuView footage to get it in proper format for anaglyph? then how do you get the deinterlaced footage to red and blue for anaglyph. i have Final Cut Express. i have been able to shoot anaglyph 3d HD with a Sony HD1 HDV mini camcorder and a Ben's Lens...i can play back the footage on a HDTV plasma and it looks amazing!!!!!!!!! |
