Oh... Another idea just has enter in my mind. A was thinking about the Sanyo HD1, and the realized that it no lanc has but it does has a wireless remote. Why not put two HD1 together (they are tiny and SLIM, so minimum interpupilar distance can be achieved), attach them to a custom made plate (hd1 has standard tripod hole)with parallax modifier, attach the remote to that rig and: You have a twin TINY rig stereocopic system that films in full 720P x 2 mode to flash memory (SD cards), weights 420 grams (plate and remote not included, perhaps a total 500 gr) for 1300$ ! Do you think the remote might be accurate enoght to control simultaleously both cameras? more advantages: remote controls too full menu if i dont remember wrong so it has more features than the LANs sychronizers that are popular in this forums (with only on/off-zoom in/out) The only drawback is raw image quality, not near to other cameras, but the convenience is very tempting! Please share your opinions, specially 3Dvideogurus Thanks! |

We had already tested remote control based camera start as a tool for synchronziation .... Conlcusion - it doe snot work enougth reliable ... |

M.H., thanks for your feedback I know you are a professional technician on stereoscopic science, and i see in all your input here that professional point of view. I understand this remote control approach does not suit your needs, but might it be enought for a consumer rig? For example, nuview is not enoght for your work, but no much poeple can afford 2 x cinealta + sync Same case for cheap DLPs at 85hz vs affordable (but not cheap) DephtQ. Would this method at that consumer level be enought or it is simple unusable? Could be the 720 progressive twin recording a better way for editting or/and syncronizing in post vs interlaced footage? Thanks! |

Our experiences with remote control: - it often happens one camera reacted later then the first one = total desync (or desync. on 1/50 sec. level) - during zoomig one camera often reacted diferently than the first one = zoom desyn. totlay destructing the given shoots ... Genraly we had found manual control is beter than remote one according reliablity .... Accrding your opinon I am on the profesional side ... I am in 1/2 in this direction ... Proffesiols works with genloked HDTV Sony CineAlta progresive cameras and use Christie, Barco or JVC 2k projectors .... The budget for one day of recording starts at $4000 and a 3D cinema system intalation price starts at $40000 level .... Anythig else they consider as toys ... I still do not feel I fall in this category .... I thing is is possibel to do nice work with dual synchronzied HDV cameras or 3 chip DV cameras ... If you do not shoot totaly trivial static scenes (you cna use stereo photography for them) you realy need syn. precison on 1/1000 level or beter. Stereoscopci shooting is extreamly sensitive for sycnhronziation - becouse desync. and motion produce changes in paralax = percieved depth deformation. We had e.g. recorded a decument about historical sword play games. The 1/1000 sec precison was not good enought - deph deformation conencted to the motion is visible and a lot of the scenses look bad ... |

M.H., If I use a Sync Shepherd circuit (not the lanc one, just the "only monitor" through video out signal, i can get enought sync to start working with (if i get both cameras to powerup at same time, i have to find a way for that, could you give me some hints to get this without lanc protocol, perhaps packing 2or3 batteries and an only on/off for both cameras?) The next problem would be control remote using without lossing sync. I was thinking on hardwire control buttoms for common interface, or extending the control and make it not wireless, i.e. hardwiring it to the camera by taking off the irda emitter and receiver. As you can read, i dont mind to void the warranty. I wonder if good sync between both cameras is due to lanc protocol specs or just because both cameras receive the same command at the same time. If it is this way, hardwiring buttoms should work. I've been reading lots of info about available systems and the most i would like is to attach a 3d lanc master to 2 HC3 cameras, but HC1 is not compatible and i do not yet if the HC3 will allow memory adress modify. If it does it will probably be the solution, but a minimum 8,5cm stereobase (too much perhaps), 1500gr,3000$ solution,so sorry for trying to go for the "cheapy way" but i see LOW price for this system and i would like to give it a chance before spend$$$$. Thanks for your help! |
