Is there a reliable way to convert a stereoscopic VHS tape to a Stereoscopic DVD? I have a few VHS tapes that I would like to convert so I can play them on my projector with Stereoscopic player. Any ideas? I tried to run them through my DVD recorder but the result was not sync able, I think the dvd recorder recorded the image as progressive scan and ruined the frame sequential aspect. You should be able to do a direct analog to digital conversion without losing the field sequential stereoscopic image by using any standard software "analog capture" program that will convert the image at full NTSC DVD resolution and frame rate. (I have done this using several different programs such as MedioStream's neoStudio and ShowShifter Pro. Similar programs will work just as well.) The trick is to make sure that your capture options are set for the correct DVD resolution and frame rate. |

That is a very strange occurence, if you're talking about a standard settop DVD recorder, as they are almost all set up to record in INTERLACE mode (not PROGRESSIVE). Ahh, wait... You recorded this with a settop, but now you're using a computer, through Stereoscopic Player with HDMI/DVI/VGA outputs to a projector (LCD?) Note that S.P. uses whatever Directshow MPEG2 decoders are installed (though you can specify a preference). This can easily determine how successful your experience is. You may have done everything right in recording, but be using a MPEG2 decoder that defaults to, or is stuck in, De-Interlace mode, wherein you'll never get to see the 2 images correctly. There is information on Peter Wimmer's site (and in the readme's, IIRC) that specifically mention this possibility with some steps to troubleshoot it. You should test the DVD out in a system that has, for example, a DVD player hooked up to an Edimensional field-sequential sync box (for LCS glasses) and a standard CRT monitor. If it plays OK there, your recording is fine and you just need to tweak your playback setup to cooperate with your intended format. HTH, Scott (aka Cornucopia) |

Thank you both for the advice. My projection system is working fine at least with the Slingshot DVD's so I am assuming it is my dvd recorder that is screwing up the timing. I'll play the dvd through my 3dFX converter in 2d mode and see if it can pick out just one frame. That should tell me conclusively if it is my recording or my setup causing the problems. |
