Well another B-Movie, this one is from 2000 (There is a 2009 movie with the same title but not in 3D and different story), so most of the die-hard collectors probably already know it. The DVD retails around 9 USD and so it is not really a big loss. The story is about a young couple camping in the woods on the 1st day of the years hunting season. They get assaulted by a group of masked hunters who nearly beat the man to dead and rape the woman. As the police is not very helpfull at all the young woman decides to "solve" the case on her own, armed with a crossbow she goes back to the woods for revenge... While the actors themselves are much of a "B-Movie", the female main protagonist acts quite well. The movie comes in Field sequential (interlaced) 3D format and thus should be viewable with about all shutterglasses and most older VR HMDs. I viewed it on an old 1996 i-glasses PC version on windows XP and the Stereo 3D is very satisfying. As it is one of the few movies that comes in field sequential format no 3D viewer is needed, just make sure your player does not "resize" the movie or the interlaced lines may come out of order. What makes this movie worth watching is definitely the Stereo 3D effects. Unlike other directors that "accidentially" used a 3D Camera while making their 2D movie, Jeff Leroy definitely had an idea what makes a movie Stereo 3D. Many scenese are making clever use of that technology. Not only do rifles point to the camera, knifes look like they come out of the screen, but many scenes were also filmed in a strategic manner for 3D. There is barely any scene in the movie that does not have a foreground object giving the stunning 3D effect, going so far that the cameraman even had to lay down in the grass to have some grass in the foreground. From a 3D point of view this movie is definitely better than many other releases and in the small selection of field sequenced "real 3D" movies this is definitely a must have for lousy 9 bucks. The movie itself, if viewed in 2D is definitely "just" a B-Movie from the quality of the actors, but it is not a boring movie. Most sites classified it as "Horror", but if you can disregard that the main protagonist decapitates the bad guys i would rather call it an action movie. Some reviews i read ranted about the bad effects, but i think they are better than in most other B-Movies, i have definitely seen way cheaper effects and would rate the gore "OK". |
