Got a pair of the hi-res stereo HMD's from MiMi for work. They work great with VTK (Check out the VTK homepage) but of course they should because I subsidized the VESA 3-pin compatibility mode! They also work great with the H3D patch of Quake II. I'm using a FireGL 1000 Pro as my graphics card w/ NT 4.0 as my OS. I hope to use a Revelator soon. One detail is not well documented in the docs or anywhere else to my knowledge, how to connect the unit to a VESA 3.pin connector. I would like you to disseminate the following information. We require polarity switch when the polarity has to be constant with the source but if not, you can flip the polarity by the switch you will find on the side of the body. When there is no sync pulse, our head set will automatically generate sync pulse internally. Still the mono plug is required to select 3D mode, if you have 4 contact plug, you have to connect yellow (Video) and red (Audio Right) connector each other. White connector (Audio Left) is used for sync pulse input and 0 to 5V is OK. Kupiec" at SONYCOM Date: 7/15/99 2:46 PM We have just purchased an LDI-D100B Head Mounted Display but we have not been able to locate a pinout for the stereo trigger. We are presently employing a Diamond Multimedia FireGL-1000Pro which generates frame sequential stereo images. Frame selection is achieved by a VESA standard stereo port (3 pin mini din w/ "TTL" signal indicating framing (+5v=right, 0v=left). Can you provide us with the pinout for stereo signal input. Will we have to use the special 4 contact 3.5mm plug provided with the system? i.e.: Connect Pin 3 of the VESA Connector to tip, Pin 2 of the VESA connector to ring of a standard 3.5 mm phono plug and insert it into the jack labeled control. This connection works beautifully. Note that the same jack is used to input audio and composite video on the mono units. Audio (which is great) is supplied on the audio jack via a stereo 3.5 mm plug to the audio jack input. The video is flawless, flickerless, and has a true resolution of 800x600 at 85 Hz (42.5 Hz effective stereo). Please also note that the manual to the LD-100B (not included with the HMD, what do you expect for $4,200) is available at: http://www.world.sony.com/BizPartners/ISP/dtp/PDF/i_manual/99AIM4E.pdf there is no LDI-D100B manual (nor documentation) at this time. and for the LDI-D50B and LDI-50B are at: http://www.world.sony.com/BizPartners/ISP/dtp/PDF/i_manual/99AIM3E.pdf
